Early Summer 2009, and this year's awakening for The Sid: Rob & Rache Barker's wedding in May in the wilds of Dartmoor was an extraordinary and beautiful festival-style celebration, with the band just one of many entertainments, including Ceilidhs and fire jugglers, at the happy gathering. Tents were (ineptly) pitched, ale was quaffed and the boys kicked into a first set which warmed things up nicely. After a brief pause outside for the fire act, the second set absolutely blew the doors off, a full dance floor spurring the band on to new heights. Pete's brother Paul (mate of the happy couple) and little sister Claire (matron of honour) joined us up front, adding to some top-notch backing vocals on Mustang Sally from Rache's cousins. New tunes were added including 'Valerie', 'Love Machine' and 'Signed, Sealed Delivered' and the crowd were baying for more by the end. The lads obliged several times over, then kicked back with a warm glow in the yurt before some uninhibited moves on the dancefloor followed by an impromptu acoustic jam - seems there's life in the old dogs yet.

Rob & Rache Barker's wedding, performed at by The Sid James Experience

September '08

In early September 2008, The Sid James Experience came together again for Charlotte and Fred’s wedding reception in the splendour of the ballroom at the Prince Regent hotel on Weymouth’s esplanade. The logistics had been..interesting, between the drummer’s midnight arrival on a boat from Jersey to the bassist’s day-long traffic nightmare from London, but somehow it all came together. Blasting through a mixture of all-time-favourites-of-all-time and special new selections, and taking a break for the tremendous opera skills of ‘Dr Carlos’, the boys had the floor rammed, especially having spotted the ‘men in kilts’ and accordingly brought the house down with The Proclaimers’ I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles). Several encores later and after a reprise of what’s now entered the Sid annals as ‘The Scottish Song’, the chaps kicked back a well-earned few single malts on the terrace and shared boozy hugs and kisses with the very happy couple.

The Sid James Experience played a hot and humid summer gig at Sopley Mill in Bournmouth to celebrate the wedding of John and Nikki. The groom acted as MC throughout the performance and expertly provided guest vocals on the opening track "Touch Me" by The Doors, returning to sing it again as a finale to the gig. As usual a member of of the audience joined us on stage to provide guest female vocals on Mustang Sally.
Despite being beset by breaking strings, searing heat and lack of cold beer this was a fantastic gig that was enjoyed by all.

The Band setting up!

10th September '06

After stunning reviews from the last Dorset gig and on the basis of the live recording made, the band were booked to play an intimate gig in Devon for Claire and Matt's wedding. Although we were without Paul on keyboards and vocals, the short set went down well. The groom banned us from playing our Scissor Sisters number but we went ahead anyway and it was arguably our best number, packing the dance floor and giving us enough credibility to successfully invite a professional singer who was present to join us for guest female vocals on Mustang Sally.

The band played an extensive 22 song set list for the 'up for it' audience of family and friends to celebrate Paul and Justine Champion's wedding.
This was the band's third gig for the Champion family and the fourth in Dorset. This was also the first gig with the full line up including Paul Cartwright on keyboards as well as vocals. The groom. Paul Champion, who was the band's very first singer at the tender age of 14 returned to the stage to sing "Sunday Stripper" much to the delight of his friends.
We also added the following new songs to the set:
Let me Entertain You
Fat Bottomed Girls (at special request from the groom)
Take your Mama Out

There is an excellent live recording of the gig available for anyone who is interested.

The Sid James Experience returned to the Old Whitgiftian Association in Croydon to play at the wedding reception of "Big Dave" and Susanne. This was our first gig with a sound engineer (Tom) and the mix really benefited from his expertise especially when the Bass amp gave up. This gig also marked the debut of Paul playing keyboards in addition to singing, which was fortunate as Elliot was unable to attend due to a prior engagement.
